The airport-to-hotel transfer is enough transportation after the flight. Learn the shoreline and a few blocks around the hotel before dinner.

Walk, swim only where conditions and lifeguards support it, and keep the first outing short after the flight.

Day two

Lēʻahi, Hawaiian history, and Honolulu food

Keep the crater, beach, and city institutions together. This is the one full Honolulu day rather than a compressed tour of the entire island.

Reserve Diamond Head when required and start before the exposed trail heats up, or use the calmest appropriate water window for a swim or lesson.

Day three

Pearl Harbor—or Ko Olina

Pearl Harbor’s memorial landscape and Ko Olina’s sheltered lagoons create two different days. Pick one and leave enough time for it.

Pearl Harbor National Memorial

Allow time for the visitor center, exhibits, harbor setting, and any reserved memorial program. Confirm current National Park Service conditions and ticket guidance.

Ko Olina lagoons

Choose Ko Olina when sheltered lagoons and a resort day matter more than a memorial visit. Confirm current public access and parking arrangements.

Eat before the return

A meal near Pearl Harbor, Kapolei, or Ko Olina breaks up the west-to-Waikīkī return and avoids another special trip.

Day four

Windward ridges, one water stop, and Kualoa

Cross the Koʻolau Range once, choose one primary beach or garden, then follow the windward side north as far as daylight and the return drive allow.

Follow current parking, access, and reservation rules. Rain can improve the ridgeline view while changing trail and beach plans.

Kāneʻohe Bay and Kualoa

Distinguish public park and road views from controlled-access or private-valley experiences, and reserve commercial activities directly.

Late afternoon

Return

Start the return before late-afternoon traffic

The farther north the day reaches, the longer the return to Waikīkī. Eat near the hotel after changing out of beach or trail clothes.

Day five

Haleʻiwa and the North Shore ocean

Haleʻiwa, one or two watched beaches, and a local meal fill the day. The ocean report determines whether this is a swim day or a wave-watching day.

Walk the historic town, eat or pick up lunch, park legally, and keep private drives clear.

Ocean conditions

Waimea, Sunset Beach, or another guarded shoreline

Choose one or two stops after checking surf and weather. Winter waves can be spectacular and unsuitable for swimming at the same time.
